The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Grand Junction, Colorado isn’t the biggest thrift store in town, however it’s central location near Grand Junction High School in the heart of town, along with the fact proceeds go help those in poverty and/or struggling with addiction makes it a great place to shop for used clothing and household items.

Salvation Army Thrift Store Grand Junction

One of six non-profit Grand Junction thrift stores, the Salvation Army Thrift Store re-opened it’s 4th Street location in 2022, after having moved operations to various locations, including once in a big warehouse on Ute Avenue. Previously there was a large Salvation Army Family Thrift Store next to Mesa Fitness at the Peach Tree Shopping Center in Clifton, however that location has since closed.

The store is clean, with large windows out front, and pretty good variety of inventory.

As with other Grand Valley non-profit thrift stores, such as the Arc Thrift Store Grand Junction, and the Goodwill Grand Junction Store, folks are encouraged to donate their gently-used clothing, toys, appliances, sporting goods, housewares and more. These donations end up generating revenue that is turned around and invested back into the Salvation Army’s wonderful programs and rehabilitation services.

As a Christian-based organization, they provide food and clothing to the needy. In fact, the building next door to the north (ironically it used to house a grocery store), is the Salvation Army food pantry. They’re also known for giving seasonal and utility assistance to those in need.

Other services for which the national organization uses thrift store sales include relief and emergency assistance to those who have been affected by natural disasters, job training programs for adults with disabilities and veterans support groups helping returning service members who may be struggling with PTSD or other mental health issues after their service has ended.

The Salvation Army may be most famous (besides the Christmas bell ringers), for their Addiction and Recovery programs. In fact, the organization says that each year, they help “…more than 150,000 people to overcome alcohol and drug dependence.” Just another reason to frequent this store.

Inventory at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Grand Junction, Colorado

The store carries your typical thrift store inventory of clothing items, household goods like furniture, small appliances, books, board games, holiday knick-knacks, sporting goods, art, candles and more. I’ve seen toys and collectibles there that were still unwrapped in their original packaging. My understanding is that they have agreements with some retailers to acquire inventory from those outlets as well, meaning not everything in the store is used.
