From gently-used clothing to sports equipment, housewares to books and electronics, the Goodwill Grand Junction store has plenty to offer for everyone in a pleasant and convenient retail environment near the Mesa Mall. And while I don’t have proof, I believe this is the second biggest thrift store in the Grand Valley, only behind the spacious Arc Thrift Store Grand Junction.
My other guess is that it’s the most popular of the six Grand Junction thrift stores. The modern building is clean and well-lit, and offers plenty of parking. The store is located at 24 1/2 Road, just north of the mall and across from Home Depot’s entrance, meaning this place can get very busy.
The store is open seven days a week and takes donations every day of the week as well.
Goodwill Grand Junction
The Grand Valley’s only Goodwill thrift store opened in 2007, and underwent an extensive remodel in late 2021, adding 4,000 more square feet of retail space, per an article in the Daily Sentinel.
(The black star below is the location of the only Goodwill store in Grand Junction).
A large, separate furniture room on the left greets you as you enter, full of desks, bureaus, couches, etc. From there, going in, you’ll find racks of housewares followed by clothes, which are displayed on circular racks. There are separate men’s and women’s sections, the latter of which boasts tops, t-shirts and dresses. It can get a little crowded, as they tend to pack in the clothes tightly. In any case, this store seems to offer a ton of jeans.
In the corner you’ll find a modest-sized book section. Other thrift-store standards here include artwork, glasses, coffee cups and other ceramics. A couple of different display cases protect the “high-dollar” goods, such as antique watches, and jewelry. I once bought some cool old football cards in this jewelry section.
Another glass display area in a different section often has cameras, GPS systems, X-Box games, Nintendo Switch games, etc.
A separate semi-outdoor sports section includes everything from golf clubs to baseball mitts, bikes, cleats, sprinkler and lawn gear, snow and ski pants and the like.
Goodwill Grand Junction Discounts
As you walk-in, you’ll see a sign “Today’s Tags,” showing the color tag discounts for that day or week. There’s also often a “secret color,” which has a 75% discount. You’ll have to ask an associate what the secret color is.
Other than the frequent color tag specials, standard discounts include a 15% off promotion for those with military i.d. (only on Tuesdays).
Wednesday is senior day, with those 55 and older receiving a 15% discount. In addition, teachers who can show a school I.D. receive 15% off every Thursday.
Goodwill Grand Junction Donation Drop Off
Goodwill makes it very easy to donate, with a drive-through donation bay on the east side of the building. After donating, you’re offered a receipt and even a free water. This area can get really backed up however, especially on Saturdays.
Surprising to me was the discovery that they accept computer donations, even ones that aren’t working. I’m not sure why they do, but this seems a better alternative than paying the electronic recycling fee at the Mesa County Hazardous Waste facility.
Goodwill Grand Junction cannot accept TV’s, mattresses, box springs, tires, hot water heaters or “inoperable or damaged appliances.”
As a non-profit, recipients of Goodwill funds have included such local entities as the Center for Independence (which helps the blind and others with disabilities), the Workforce Center, and St. Matthew’s Church.

More about the GJ Goodwill
- I believe the store used to be called Discover Goodwill, however now it’s just “Goodwill” after Discover Goodwill of Southern Western Colorado merged with Goodwill Industries of Denver in 2019.
- Goodwill Industries, the parent company, has 42 Retail Thrift stores and donation centers in Colorado.
