There are four Catholic Churches in the Grand Junction area: two are in the city, and one each in both Fruita and Palisade.
The Grand Valley has a thriving Catholic community. Pew Research says that 16% of all Coloradans are Catholic, and with a combined Grand Junction/Fruita/Palisade population of around 116,000 people, that equates to roughly 18,000 plus Catholics in the area.
These 18,000 thousand plus Grand Junction-area Catholics attend Mass at four local churches:
- Immaculate Heart of Mary (Red cross on map)
- St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (Brown cross)
- Sacred Heart (Fruita, Orange cross)
- St. Ann’s Mission Church (Palisade, black cross)
Here’s a brief rundown of the four Catholic Churches in the Grand Junction area.
Immaculate Heart of Mary Grand Junction Mass Times
I cannot be for certain, but in terms of parishioners and size, I believe Immaculate Heart of Mary (or IHM), is the largest Catholic Church in the Grand Junction area.
Located at the corner of 26 1/2 Road and H Road in north Grand Junction (close to the airport), the church moved from it’s former 7th Street location across from St. Mary’s Hospital to its present location in 2000.
It’s a beautiful, light, open-concept “church in the round” arrangement, and the church is surrounded by plush, well-kept grounds and pretty landscaping. Then again, I may be biased, as I was married at IHM and my kids were baptized there.
Mass times are as follows:
Sunday | 7:30 AM, 10 AM and 5 PM |
Monday – Friday | 8 AM |

According to their website, the 10,000 square foot traditional style church has seating for 650 parishioners, and this church offers several Spanish language masses each week.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fruita & Mass Times
Serving Catholics in the west end of the Grand Valley, the new Sacred Heart Church opened in 2016, and sits in rural area 1 and 1/2 miles north of downtown Fruita. The Catholic tradition in Fruita is strong, with the earlier version of Sacred Heart having been established as St. Malachy in 1890.
Sacred Heart runs a successful youth camp each June, along with a service camp for middle/high school students (also in June). A nice touch is the portrait wall in the narthex, which honors all of the Priests who have served at Sacred Heart.

The Grand Valley is also served by a Catholic elementary and middle school.
Holy Family Catholic School is a thriving campus with enrollment from preschool to 8th grade. The school is located directly across the street from Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on land graciously donated by the late Dr. and Mrs. Geno Saccomanno. Although it has had different names and locations over the years, Holy Family Catholic School has been in Grand Junction since 1916.
